ABOUT THE JBWF
The JBWF is a christian women's organization that is an auxiliary of the Jamaica Baptist Union. We are dedicated to promoting training, education, and wellness for women and families.
MISSION & HISTORY
The JBWF has a rich history of empowering women through education, skills training, and wellness programs. We are passionate about making a difference in the lives of women and families, and it's all thanks to the support and feedback from our members and partners. Keep up to date with our upcoming events and activities in the JBWF community. Feel free to tell us what you think and give us feedback.
"The formation of the JBWF in 1922 was a very significant development partly because it opened the door to more women being actively involved in God’s mission through the church. It also paved the way for fuller recognition of the contribution Baptist women have made and are making to Christian mission by Baptists in Jamaica."Rev. Neville G. Callam, Baptist Historian, Theologian and Ethicist
The Jamaica Baptist Women's Federation is the third-oldest Christian Women's organization in the world championing the causes of the vulnerable and the marginalized. We thank God for the visionaries who were responsible for its formation under God – nine wives and one daughter of Baptist ministers in Jamaica. The husbands of most of these women came to Jamaica as missionaries. Their wives either accompanied them to the country or became associated with them after their arrival in Jamaica. Only two of the women were wives of Black Jamaica-born husbands. We give God thanks for the "Bethel Town 10" who organized this venerable effort - Frances Kirkham, Ann Miller, Agnes Helwig, Edith Price, Margaret Reid, Celia Ann Meredith, Benjamina Dillon, Mary Brown, Edith Kirkham and Elizabeth Garland Hall (for whom the children's home in Saint James is named).
